At this year’s Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, Chlorophyll Water unveiled its newest sustainable packaging options: a 1-liter bottle made entirely from 100% recycled plastic and a 16-ounce aluminum can. The move reflects the brand’s deep commitment to reducing its environmental impact while offering consumers a cleaner, greener bottled water option.
This shift builds upon Chlorophyll Water’s earlier sustainability initiatives. “We launched with landfill-biodegradable bottles and transitioned to 100% recycled plastic for our 16.9-ounce bottles,” said Matt Levine, founder of Chlorophyll Water. “Now, with our new one-liter bottles made from 100% recycled plastic and our 16-ounce aluminum cans, we’re reducing our dependence on virgin plastic — and helping lead the bottled beverage industry in a more sustainable direction.”
Tackling the Plastic Problem in the Beverage Industry
Chlorophyll Water’s packaging innovation is more than a design change — it’s a conscious response to one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time: single-use plastic. According to The Cool Down, nearly all plastic bottles today are made from virgin plastic — new plastic created from fossil fuels. This process not only generates greenhouse gas emissions, but it also contributes to the growing crisis of microplastic pollution.
Aluminum cans, on the other hand, are infinitely recyclable. And by using 100% recycled plastic for its new larger-format bottles, Chlorophyll Water helps reduce the amount of plastic ending up in landfills and oceans. The company’s packaging strategy is built around circularity — reusing what already exists rather than creating new waste.
“Sustainability is central to our mission,” Levine told The Cool Down. “We want to provide a better beverage option — both for your body and for the planet.”
A Clean Label Commitment to Health and Transparency
Chlorophyll Water isn’t just leading in sustainability — it’s also a trailblazer in product safety and transparency. It is the first bottled water in the U.S. to receive the Clean Label Project Certification, a third-party certification that tests for over 90 contaminants, including heavy metals, pesticide residues, plasticizers, and PFAS. This sets Chlorophyll Water apart in an industry where many products remain untested for common pollutants.
The Clean Label Project certification reflects the brand’s commitment to clean hydration and consumer health — a growing concern among wellness-conscious shoppers.
A Mission That Matches the Moment
As consumers increasingly look for products that align with their values, Chlorophyll Water continues to lead by example. The combination of clean ingredients, scientific backing, and eco-conscious packaging is driving strong national sell-through and growth.
“Our new 1-liters are flying off shelves,” Levine shared. “The demand has been incredible — and we’re only just getting started.”
With national distribution growing and interest from major retailers, Chlorophyll Water is proving that better-for-you and better-for-the-planet can go hand in hand.
