Brief Introduction/Tell Us About yourself (where you are from, etc)

Hi! I am LeNaya also known as The Holistic MFT. I am Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (MFT) and  Holistic Wellness Expert from Atlanta, Georgia. I specialize in bridging holistic wellness practices such as yoga, essential oils and sound healing , with traditional psychotherapy. Through the blending of the MIND, BODY and SOUL, I help people protect their peace, cultivate joy, improve relationships, affirm and love themselves on their path to healing and purpose.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in nutrition?

I decided to pursue a career in mental health and wellness because it is a part of who I am. From an early age my parents  taught the importance of treating your mind, body and soul as a temple. Traditionally, therapists aren't seen as a part of the wellness industry and I wanted to change that. I love helping people foster a deeper mind, body and soul connection on their path to healing and purpose.

What kind of training did you undergo/certification you received?

I have undergone years of training, it takes anywhere between 4-7 years to become a licensed mental health professional. Then you add my training in yoga, meditation, sound healing and trauma that is another year or so. Needless to say, I am passionate about what I do and who I help so the years of training was absolutely worth it!

What do people look for in a health coach, nutritionist or dietician?

When looking for a wellness professional I recommend looking at two things. First, their credentials and training. Do they have training and knowledge in the areas you are seeking help in, that is a huge factor. Another factor is your overall connection to the wellness professional. Do you relate to them, do you feel comfortable with them? That is going to be major in your overall outcome, if you don't like your coach you will get nowhere.

If you could persuade people to change three things about their diet, what would they be?

I would encourage people to be more mindful and present as they eat. We live in such a fast paced society that often times we do not slow down to truly taste and enjoy our meals.

Add more color to your plate! Fruits and veggies are necessary to a healthy and balanced diet.

Drink water! Water is necessary for overall health and it can honestly improve your mood. Drinking a glass of water is a go to calm down strategy for me.

How important is it to properly hydrating throughout the day?

It is so important to stay hydrated during the day. When you do not have enough water intake ,you can become tired, irritable and  let's not forget how important it is for radiant skin.

How much water should someone drink in a day?

64 oz ( 8, 8 oz glasses) is the recommended daily intake. If you can get to a gallon, kudos to you!

What are the benefits of purified water?

Purified water is free from certain types of bacteria, fungi and algae from your tap or spring water that could otherwise cause serious illness or disease.  Additionally, purifying water removes certain chemicals that are added to general public tap water supplies as disinfectants, including chlorine, a common chemical that has been linked to increased rates of certain types of cancer. And if we are being honest,  it tastes better.

Plant based living is becoming more and more popular. When eating a mostly plant based / vegetarian diet, are there certain foods to focus on to make sure we’re getting enough nutrients and protein?

Keep it simple, focus on foods with as few ingredients as possible and add color to your plate, eat the rainbow :).  Have your go to fruits, veggies, legumes, healthy fats, and starches. And of course: drink water, lots of it!

Speaking of plant based, what are some of the benefits of drinking chlorophyll water / benefits of liquid chlorophyll?

Chlorophyll is a green molecule found in plants that absorb sunlight and convert it into energy. Also known as “nature’s life force.” Chlorophyll aids in the body’s natural detox process and helps balance the body’s pH levels. Studies show chlorophyll may even help reduce hunger and aid in weight loss. Add chlorophyll to a glass of filtered water with some  lemon and see how it changes your life!

What’s your favorite source of antioxidants that you recommend?

Strawberries and dark chocolate, yummy and so good for you!

What’s one of your favorite organic/natural supplements or vitamins you recommended?

Sea moss! It is great for weight loss, immunity and energy.
