PARIS ALEXANDRA
Originally from Minneapolis, MN. I've been living in Brooklyn, NY for 10 years. I received my 200 hour yoga teacher training from YogaWorks.
When did you start practicing yoga and why?
I started practicing yoga over 14 years ago. It was a way to calm my mind. I was experiencing a lot of anxiety yoga was one of the many tools along with therapy that supported my process.
What got you hooked?
I began to notice my internal awareness shifted. I became more present in my body and developed more self acceptance.
Where did you do your training?
I completed my training at YogaWorks.
Tell me about the studio you currently teach at.
I am co-founder of BK Yoga Club, a body positive yoga studio in Brooklyn, NY. BK Yoga Studio is a space where people are celebrated for who they are in the present moment while growing in movement, community, and creativity.
What’s your favorite pose and why?
Restorative savasana! I love that final pose. We are constantly moving in a busy world so allowing myself the gift of rest after an invigorating flow is everything!
What advice would you someone looking to get into yoga?
As a larger bodied black woman who practices yoga, I would tell my fellow yogis to take up space. We belong and we get to honor and see our reflections in each other.
What advice would you give a well-practiced yogi to take their practice to the next level?
I would honestly say that it's a continual practice that starts in the mind. We will never reach a certain level. I believe the true practice is become a more mindful observer of our thoughts on and off the mat.

When did you start practicing yoga and why?
I started practicing yoga 9 years ago! I was living in the Bushwick section of Brookly, NY and was stressed out with everyday life. Yoga was the place where I got a chance to de-stress and quiet my mind.
What got you hooked?
I noticed that every time I got out of a yoga class I felt so much better! My energy levels increased and I got so much more in touch with my spirit.

What’s your favorite pose and why?
I love inversions! My favorite is headstand because I love the challenge of testing my strength and turning my world upside down.
What advice would you someone looking to get into yoga?
Take more than one class. If you have a bad experience know that there are different types of yoga out there! Vinyasa might not be your style so maybe you try a restorative or hot yoga class. The right kind of yoga is the class that works for you!
What advice would you give a well-practiced yogi to take their practice to the next level?
Continue to grow and challenge yourself. That one pose that you thought you'd never do, do it. You'd be surprised at your next level and at the same time you next level doesn't define you!
